Welcome to Adam’s Overdue Reviews’ First Annual Shocktober Helloween Spooktacular Extravaghoulza Skelebration and Film Festerval (or Movie Marrowthon) 2024!

I never watch as many horror movies as I intend to in October, but this year I am committed dammit! I have a list of 100+ potential movies of every horror flavor. I want to mix shit up and go outside of my usual lanes, so I have come up with a wide range of goals:

A horror movie from every decade 1930s-2020s (1920s are a bonus goal)

A movie from each of the following subgenres: Horror/

Action

Body

Comedy

Giallo

Monster

Psychological

Sci-Fi

A Universal classic

A Hammer horror film

3 hospital horror movies

3 anthology movies

3 movies from the UK or Australia

3 movies from Italy

3 other non-English language foreign films

3 movies from “Masters of Horror” (20th century directors best known for horror)

3 movies from acclaimed directors with crossover or mostly non-horror careers

3 movies from the 2020s with “buzz”

3 movies with a beloved character actor

3 movies with a big name crossover or non-horror actor

3 supernatural (ghosts or spirits) or satanic movies

3 slashers

3 sequels

3 movies with queer themes or creators

1 movie with Tom Savini effects

1 reboot or remake

Run the series: Nightmare on Elm Street

Bad Movie Night!

1 movie I haven’t watched in over 20 years

Except for that last category, I can only count movies I am watching for the first time. A single movie can count towards two different categories, but not multiple entries in the same category (i.e. if it has a bunch of sub-genres I can only pick one, if it has multiple beloved character actors it only counts as one or three). That means I will need at least 30+ movies, so I have already gotten started! I don’t review every movie I watch because I don’t always have a lot to say, but this month I will log and at least briefly mention everything for the checklist.
